MEET SAVANNAH: CREATOR OF COPY COMPASS

As a copywriter and business owner, most of what I do is all about you (the client). But this blog post is going to be all about me.

My name is Savannah, I’m a twenty-something creative Swiss Army Knife with a knack for words. I’ve been writing and creating for as long as I can remember, so you can imagine my excitement when I learned that I could create for a living. In fact, college felt like a literal playground for me and my brain. I was lucky enough to know what I wanted to do, and fortunate enough to be able to chase after it through my studies. After getting my hands dirty through internships and entry-level copywriting jobs, I decided that I wanted to leverage my copywriting skills as part of the bigger picture.

In 2018, I moved from NYC to Madison, Wisconsin in search of better cheese curds, more Midwest niceness, and true love (ick, I know, but it’s the truth). I got a job as a marketing specialist and was able to use my copywriting knowledge to create engaging campaigns within the financial services industry for two whole years before I realized that I was bored, unappreciated, and underutilized.

So I quit.

In the midst of a global pandemic, I quit my job and chose to bet on myself. I spent an entire year working with small businesses who needed to stand out online in order to survive. During the summer of 2021, I went on a camping trip and had a bit of an epiphany.

Okay, so maybe it was more like a slap in the face. I realized that I was wasting my time by not chasing after the audience that I loved more than anything. While I love working with small businesses of all kinds, I knew I was missing out my true calling.

As an avid adventurer, it felt natural that my next step should be focused on the outdoor and adventure space. In October of 2021, I launched Copy Compass as a birthday gift to myself.

Copy Compass exists to help bold business owners appeal to adventurous audiences and thrive in the outdoor industry, and leverages expertly crafted copy to do so.

Launching Copy Compass felt like coming home, and as I meet and work with more clients within this niche - my niche - I feel more and more connected to my business, the outdoor industry, and nature.

My life goal is to own a campground.

You read that right. Someday, I hope to spend my time tending to a campground experience that welcomes diverse campers and boasts an accessible atmosphere for all. But for now, I’m an expert copywriter and marketing pro, and I love helping likeminded business owners. I’ll continue to leverage my talents and expertise to help others thrive and grow their own businesses until eventually, it’s time for me to help myself.

MORE ABOUT SAVANNAH

  • I’ve been to China…twice! I was invited to compete in an international advertising competition during my college career. I didn’t win, but I did learn a lot.

  • I’m a cat mom to Maisy & Mello - DM me on Instagram for cat pics.

  • I travel light and never check bags. If I can’t fit it in a carry on, it wasn’t meant to be.

  • While I wouldn’t consider myself to be very athletic, I’ve been snowboarding for more than a decade.

  • I pride myself on my campfire cooking skills. You won’t find hotdogs in my cooler! My favorite campfire recipe is spicy sausage and veggie scramble. Serve it up on a fire-toasted hoagie roll for extra deliciousness.

  • I can type ~150 words per minute. Which might not sound like a particularly useful skill, but when your brain struggles to slow down like mine, it helps to be able to get your thoughts out as quickly as possible.

  • I’m working on setting better boundaries with my phone. Those screen time notifications are no joke…yikes!

There you have it. A little bit about me and how Copy Compass came to be. Have a question or want to chat? My virtual office is always open. Send me an email or fill out this form to get in touch, friend!
